Dr. Yvonne Lamers’ Human Nutrition and Vitamin Metabolism Research Group invites applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship position with a start date as soon as possible. The position is located in the Food, Nutrition and Health (FNH) program in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems on the Vancouver campus of The University of British Columbia.
In collaboration with two international research teams led by Dr Mary Ward (Ulster University, UK) and Dr Albert Flynn (Cork University, Ireland), the successful candidate will execute research developing accessible biomarkers for riboflavin (vitamin B2) status. Except for the UK and Ireland, riboflavin biomarkers have not been included in nutrition surveys because the existing biomarker requires immediate and very laborious pre-analysis processing that is unfeasible in most settings.
The research will address questions linked to nutritional biomarkers, dietary variables, and nutrient-gene interactions in population-based cohort studies. The candidate will work closely with Dr Yvonne Lamers (Canada Research Chair and Assistant Professor in Human Nutrition) and graduate students, and will be involved in collaborative work with the international research teams and with the local co-investigators Dr Angela Devlin (Faculty of Medicine) and Dr John Spinelli (School of Population and Public Health) at UBC. The appointment will be for 1 year with the possibility of extension for additional two years.
The candidate must have a PhD, preferably in Nutrition, Clinical Chemistry, or Biochemistry, and preference will be given to those with experience in biomarker analysis and population-based cohort studies. Potential candidates with demonstrated contributions relating to mass spectrometry, targeted metabolomics, and ROC analyses are encouraged to apply. The candidate will be responsible for training graduate students on research methods related to nutrition surveys and basic clinical chemistry skills.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three references to:
